Bird’s Haven Farms is committed to only selling what we grow. We believe the customer has the right to know where and how their produce is grown. We believe you cannot ensure quality and control unless you know exactly how the produce was raised from seed. Our farm, while not certified organic, practices sustainable agriculture by growing on plastic to negate the need for herbicides and use manure as fertilizer. We do not spray any of our produce with synthetic pesticides unless facing a crop loss, and we are always willing to honestly answer any question about how your produce has been raised.

Bird’s Haven Farms is located just five miles north of Granville, Ohio on Lafayette Road. Our family farm is now in its 29th season. The farm is family owned and operated by Tom (and Ann) Bird and youngest son, Lee Bird. Lee is a graduate of The Ohio State University and returned to manage the farm in 2005. Youngest daughter Bryn continues to help in marketing the operation and managing the CSA subscriptions. With the average age of the American farmer reaching 58, Lee and Bryn are paving the way for a future and younger generation of farmers. Our family is committed to staying on the family’s land and working to create a viable business to support our growing family. You will see Lee, his wife Lindsey and their four daughters Olivia (16), Ella (15), Sophia (13), and Claire (11) running around the farm on everyday adventures. Bryn is joined at market by her husband Brian and their daughters Emlyn (10) and Paige (8) and Margo (5).

The farm couldn’t operate without our farm manager, Jessica Bogantz, Jessica has been with Bird’s Haven for 8 years and works year-round to provide the community with locally grown food each week. Jessica and Lee pride themselves on researching new and innovative cultivating practices. As a team we all work hard to test multiple varieties of each product. This way we only use varieties that are best suited for our climate and disease pressures. This also ensures that we grow to the best of our climate's ability without additional inputs!

We are also able to offer an extended season with our produce through the use of our now 11 high-tunnels.  These unheated greenhouse-like structures keep the temperature high enough to have tomatoes as early as May and lettuce after Thanksgiving!

Meet the Family

Ann & Tom Bird

Ann & Tom Bird

Tom and Ann Bird purchased the farm in 1995 on a dream. After living in Colorado for more than 30 years they took a leap of faith and bought the 110 acres outside of Granville, OH.

Tom continues to work as a relief Veterinarian off the farm. However, his main job is to plan, schedule, and order the tens of thousands of seeds we use each year. He keeps us all straight on exactly what day each seed needs to be in the soil in order to have the perfect produce ready for your CSA boxes in the summer!

Before our Mother’s passing in 2018 Ann kept the farm running! After being a city-girl born and raised she took the country like a horse to water! A certified "farmer's wife" she managed all of the accounts, payroll, chickens, packed the CSA bags, answered emails, and kept us all in line. The farm truly would not be without her!

When Tom is not on the farm he is busy with all his granddaughters. Tom is always up for a weekend get-away to Amish country for Swiss cheese or a cup of tea with an old friend from high school!

Lee, Lindsey, Olivia, Ella, Sophia and Claire

Lee and Lindsey Bird are the main producers for Bird's Haven Farms. The two met while Lee was studying Agricultural Business Management at The Ohio State University and Lindsey was studying nursing at Capital University. After they were married in 2005 they returned to the farm and Lee began managing the day-to-day operation. Lindsey took a nursing position at Licking Memorial Hospital and the two quickly expanded their family. You can find their four daughters Olivia, Ella, Sophia and Claire running around and on daily adventures in the fields and now helping with wholesale deliveries! When not farming, Lee is off chasing the next "best truck ever" and furthering his collection of antiques with only a "little" surface rust. Lindsey is busy managing four busy girls and finding time to visit with her family in Van Wert, Ohio.

Brian, Bryn, Margo, Paige and Emlyn

Bryn and Brian moved back to Granville in 2011 after Brian fulfilled his commitment to the US Navy. Bryn is currently Granville Township Trustee and Brian works in IT Management for DOD. The family loves Friday night markets in Newark and making memories together.

If you have a CSA subscription with Bird's Haven Farms then you have quickly become aquatinted with Bryn as she manages the membership and weekly newsletters.
